MIAMI – Caroma®, the worldwide leader in innovative, high-efficiency toilet suites and sinks, is supporting the non-profit organization Dream in Greensmby pledging to sponsor a school that will participate in the 2011-2012 Green Schools Challenge. The program is designed to support students and schools in southern Florida, as they play a unique role in transitioning towards a green society.

Students and staff partaking in the Green Schools Challenge are actively involved in assessing environmental and energy challenges as well as designing and implementing water conservation solutions at their schools. Local schools reduce their overall carbon footprint while learning vital lessons about environmental sustainability. Student-led activities promote low and no cost conservation solutions as part of an overall plan to reduce the school’s energy expenses, water consumption and waste.

“Caroma is honored to adopt a school that will participate in the 2011-2012 Green Schools Challenge program,” said Derek Kirkpatrick, North America General Manager of Caroma. “The opportunity to educate youth about water conservation and empower K-12 students to take action in their schools, and subsequently in their homes and communities, is one that makes us extremely proud.”

Dream in Green started the Green Schools Challenge program during the 2006-2007 school year; that same year, the Miami-Dade County Public School Board unanimously approved an expansion of the program. During the 2009-2010 school year, the program expanded from three to 48 schools; in one year, the 48 schools saved more than $435,000 in energy costs and conserved over a million kilowatt hours of electricity.
